Governor Training Case Study: Moorlands Primary School

Governor Training – an enabler for quality governance

The successful running of any school is based upon the foundation of quality teaching overseen by the Head Teacher and Senior Management Team on a daily basis, and strategically evaluated by the Board of Governors. Improving the outcomes for children is paramount, and Moorlands Primary School in West Bromwich is a great example of an establishment doing just that for its 200 pupils aged 5 to 11.

One new governor attended the ‘Getting you started’ course and through the post training evaluation form awarded SIPS the highest possible ratings on all assessment criteria – including aspects such as course materials, pace and outputs. They commented that the course had offered a great steer by “clarifying responsibilities”.

“Our board of governors is keen to contribute to school life and make a difference to children’s learning. We strive for areas of specialism and complementary skillsets to offer a balanced composition. To achieve this, part of the solution is attending some of the extensive Governor Training courses offered at SIPS. In the last 12 months, five governors have attended courses that are diverse in nature ranging from ‘Safeguarding’ to ‘Financial Planning’ and ‘Strategic Direction’ to list just some topics”.

“SIPS are a trusted partner and always can be relied upon to offer factual, on point advice and best practice. Moorlands looks forward to partnering with SIPS for many years to come.”

Mrs Kate Roberts, Head Teacher, Moorlands Primary School
