We continue to work with Sandwell schools to build and support their music offer. It is our goal
to encourage every school in Sandwell to work with us, so that there is an equity of opportunity
for children to learn a musical instrument during their time at school.

On Saturday 14th January SIPS Music held our first social event for the music centre students. This idea came from the student voice steering group and was in the form of a bowling trip. We invited all the Music Centre students along and 30 signed up. We hired out the appropriate number of lanes at Ten Pin bowling near Dudley and ran a hugely successful social event.

The students loved getting to know each other better and making stronger friendships with those they normally perform alongside, as well as other students they have only met for the first time. We had a wide range of ages from 8 years old to 16 and a wide spread of our bands and groups, including some from IGNITE (our children-in-care group).

Our 14 year old flute-student said “Good fun and good to meet up with friends. It’s made me feel closer to my music friends now …” and one parent said “Thank you for organising the event, my son really enjoyed it. He sometimes finds it hard to come out of his shell but had a fantastic time.”
